Doncaster Railway Station Forecourt project was implemented to provide a welcoming first impression to the thriving town of Doncaster.

|Main Contractor:||Doncaster Borough Council|
|Design / Product||Plateu Seating - Wall Mounted|
The forecourt is designed to place pedestrian access to the station first, with the focus being on large walkways, planters with wall top seating and a large public art display celebrating Doncaster’s strong railway heritage.
The client wanted wall top seating with a challenging but achievable design brief. First, they wanted the seating to be able to withstand heavy use. Second, they wanted the seating to incorporate anti harbour measures. Finally, they wanted the seating modules to be removable for maintenance purposes.
Usually, heavy use resistant seating requires substantial subframe structures, but the client did not want this, so the design office had to create a hidden, but strong, subframe structure. For anti-harbour purposes, armrests were installed at set intervals on the integrated seating. The seating also features hidden fixtures so that each module could be easily removable.
Seating from the Plateu collection was used throughout the scheme. This style was well suited to this project because its simple structure gave the design office the flexibility to incorporate the requested technical detailing. Also, the design fitted in with the modern, clean aesthetic formed by the large concrete planters.
