Although the project is in an urban environment, the client wanted to reflect Hartlepool’s coastal proximity, so Marram grass and timbers with muted colours were used.
The key challenge for any Street Furniture company on this project was to protect against the harsh maritime environment. Hartlepool Borough Council realised this and included it in their requirements, as most ‘off the shelf’ benches would corrode given the high atmospheric salinity. To overcome this, we designed our furniture around this key requirement. For timber, we used Class 1 durable hardwoods throughout, and all steelwork was hot dip galvanised. Thanks to this, we fulfilled the client’s requirements and ensured our furniture would stand the test of time.
Seating designs with a mix of longitudinal and intermediate slats were used to create visual interest and allow us to create the curved benches around the Seaton High Light Memorial.
