Project Details Project Intro

Situated within a vibrant mixed-use development, this new energy-efficient comprehensive school provides over 1,100 spaces for local students aged 11-19. It forms part of a wider regeneration effort to create a connected and sustainable community, just minutes from the heart of the city.

Designed to meet rigorous environmental standards, the building sets a benchmark in low-impact architecture. Built to Passivhaus principles, it features high-performance insulation, air source heat pumps and an orientation that maximises natural light and airflow – significantly reducing energy consumption while creating a healthier, more comfortable environment for learning.

Key Features Include:

Sustainable Design: The school’s architecture is a model of modern environmental thinking. Enhanced thermal performance, renewable energy systems and passive solar design contribute to a low-carbon footprint and reduced operational costs.

Exceptional Learning Environment: The building is equipped with spacious, well-lit classrooms, digital teaching tools and specialist spaces for art, science, and performance. A roof terrace, outdoor games court and flexible learning areas support a broad, modern curriculum.

Community Focus: Beyond school hours, the facilities open up for community use – including sports fields, recreational spaces and flexible indoor areas – reinforcing the school’s role as a hub for the neighbourhood.

A Heritage-Inspired Setting: Located within a historic dockside area, the school sits alongside listed industrial buildings and characterful public spaces. It complements the wider residential and cultural landscape, where old meets new in a thoughtfully curated urban environment.
