Logic’s involvement in this project was to design and manufacture the seating in the public plaza in front of the building. This plaza, known as Bank Court, is the central public realm space of the wider Arena Central development and is also overlooked by the HSBC building (aka 1 Centenary Square) and the former Municipal Bank building by Thomas Howitt, now owned by the University of Birmingham.
The main challenge of the Bank Court site was the ground level changes. Rather than have a large sloping expanse, the landscape architect decided to specify benches that would mirror the ground level changes and create a terraced area to overcome the undulations.
To work within this terraced area, a highly modified version of the Pueblo seat collection was used. It is a good example of how our product collections can be customised to meet complex briefs. The chunky, low slung bench sections of solid English Oak complement the surroundings and add visual interest. Various angles and shapes coexist working towards a ‘peak’ in one corner where the ground level is highest, creating an amphitheatre-like landscape.
